Stanford wins the PAC 10 Fitness Challenge!
Wellsphere's BeWell@Stanford community drives participation.
Last week, the schools of the Pacific 10 conference held a one-week fitness challenge. Students, faculty, staff and supporters from all 10 schools logged their activity minutes online each day from Monday through Friday. GET ACTIVE were the buzzwords and all the schools worked hard to achieve the title of Most Active school in the Pac-10.
Early in the week, the BeWell team spread the word to our new BeWell@Stanford community about the competition. As community members, Miri and I decided to start a group on BeWell and invite our friends and community members to run the Stanford Dish trail with us every morning. It was great to start each day running with a bunch of friends helping us to rack up more miles for the challenge.
PAC10 Fitness Drama!
The week began with Washington State University (WSU) taking a big early lead with more than 7,500 miles logged in the first day. Stanford, UCLA, UofO, Oregon State, ASU, USC, UoA, and Cal were far behind. What happened next, over the course of Wednesday through Friday, was an amazing demonstration of the power of the BeWell community. With the help of the BeWell site, and with BeWell community members encouraging others throughout campus to be more active and log their minutes, Stanford captured the lead from WSU. By end of day Wednesday, Stanford was over 1,000 miles ahead.
Not to be outdone, WSU pulled out the stops and retook the lead on Thursday with an impressive 35,000 miles. By Friday morning, WSU commanded the lead again, this time by 1,000 miles.
Once again, we mobilized the power of the BeWell community. The BeWell team sent messages to all the registered members of the community to encourage them to help rescue us from our second place standings. And the community answered.
Throughout the day Friday, the Stanford BeWell community rallied to the challenge. WSU had a strong showing on Friday, logging over 16,000 miles of activity on Friday alone. But when the dust settled after the contest ended at midnight on Friday, over 3,200 Stanford members had logged a whopping 55,000 miles of physical activity for the week to win the competition.
Congratulations to the BeWell@Stanford community for showing what it really means to "Get Active" and winning this important challenge! Go Stanford!
